Marta Kowalczyk

Violin

    Marta Kowalczyk was born in 1991 in Koszalin. Winner of the Magna Cum Laude Medal, winner of international violin competitions, soloist, chamber musician, lecturer.

    She started learning to play the violin at the age of 7 at the ZPSM. Grażyna Bacewicz in Koszalin. She graduated with honors from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the class of Professor Jan Stanienda, at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the class of Professor Gyorgy Pauk, and at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona with Professor Salvatore Accardo.

    In September 2015, together with the pianist Łukasz Chrzęszczyk, she won the Grand Prix and two Special Awards at the 1st International Chamber Music Competition in Lusławice. Additionally, she is a winner of, among others: the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition, the 1st prize and the special prize of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth for the greatest artistic individuality at the International Violin Competition in Bled (Slovenia), the 1st prize and special prizes at the International Violin Competition them. P. Konjovic in Belgrade. In 2014, Marta Kowalczyk won the Bach Solo Violin Prize Competition in London and received the Special Prize at the China International Violin Competition in Qingdao.

    Marta Kowalczyk received scholarships and awards from: the National Children's Fund, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, the Stephen Bell Trust Foundation, the Kirckman Concert Society, the Park Lane Group, the Sinfonia Varsovia Foundation, the Pro Polonia Society Foundation and the Młoda scholarship program Poland.

    She has performed in most European countries, China, South Korea, Canada and the USA. She has performed many times with the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra; she also performed with, among others, the Warsaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra during the Chopin and His Europe Festival under the baton of Maestro Antoni Wit, the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra under Maestro Jacek Kasprzyk, the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Radio Orchestra, the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra Zielonogórska.

    As a soloist, she has performed at many distinguished festivals: the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, the Chopin and His Europe Festival, the Busan Maru Festival in South Korea, the Festival Musica di Collina in Lapedona in Italy, the Salerno Festival, the Chamber Music Festival in León in Spain, the Evenings Festival at the Arsenal in Wrocław, the Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój and many others.

    In 2013, Marta Kowalczyk, together with pianist Somi Kim, performed the UK premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki's Sonata 2 at the Southbank Center in London. The duo also performed many times in: London's Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James's Piccadilly,

    Westminster Abbey, Museo del Violino in Cremona. In 2016, the duo made their debut at the famous Concertgebouw concert hall in Amsterdam.

    Since 2017, Marta has been concertmaster of the Basel Symphony Orchestra.
