Xiaotong Wang
Violin
Xiaotong Wang is a violinist whose artistry embraces solo performance, chamber collaboration, and
orchestral leadership. Born into a musical family, she began violin studies at the age of five and quickly
distinguished herself on the international stage. In 2019, she won both 1st and 2nd Prizes at two different
categories at the Hong Kong International String Competition. She has since appeared in recital across
China, the United States, and Europe.
Xiaotong earned her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at East China Normal University in Shanghai
before moving to the United States, where she completed both a Performance Diploma and a Master of Music
degree in Violin Performance at The Southern Methodist University. There, she studied artists associated with
Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts - Aaron Boyd and Alexander Sitkovetsky, serving as their teaching
assistant.
Her artistry has been further shaped by participating in the masterclass studios of leading violinists, most
notably Pinchas Zukerman in 2021—an experience that left a lasting influence on her musical development.
She has also worked with Philippe Quint, Chad Hoopes, Isaac Malkin, and David Kim.
Building on this strong artistic foundation, Xiaotong has developed a deep passion for chamber music. She
has collaborated with internationally renowned ensembles and artists, including the Viano and Marmen
Quartets, violist Ellen Rose, and violinist Aaron Boyd. She is the violinist of the E Nulo Piano Trio (with Jan
Wachowski, piano, and Sebastian Kozub, cello), which was a finalist at the 22nd Kiejstut Bacewicz
International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź. In addition, Xiaotong is a member of the Frigatti
Ensemble, a group with unconventional instrumentation that focuses primarily on contemporary music. With
the ensemble, she has performed at the Chopin Museum in Warsaw, Lublin Castle, and other venues across
Poland.
In addition to her solo and chamber work, Xiaotong has served as concertmaster in multiple orchestras in the
United States and has collaborated in various performance settings with several internationally renowned
conductors, including Keith Lockhart (Boston Pops Conductor), Richard Kaufman (Emmy Award–Winning
Film and Pops Conductor), Michelle Merrill (Former Assistant Conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra),
JoAnn Falletta (Grammy-Winning Music Director), and Paul Phillips (Conductor of the SMU Meadows
Symphony Orchestra and Director of Orchestral Studies at the Meadows School of the Arts).
