Daniel Palmizio

Conductor/Viola

Italian-British conductor, violist and lecturer. Winner of a number of prestigious competitions. Winner of, among others: 1st prize at the International Competition in Budapest, 1st Watson Forbes Competition Prize in Scotland and 1st Prize at the Valentino Bucchi Competition in Rome. He studied and later lectured at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and the Royal College of Music in London. He later studied viola with Bruno Giuranna and conducting with Donato Renzetti.

In the years 2014-2016 he was principal viola in the London Philharmonia orchestra conducted by Esa Pekka Salonen.

In 2016, Daniel Palmizio made his debut as a conductor with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra. He regularly conducts: Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Filarmonica Rossini, Filarmonica Abruzzese, Ulster Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra in Szeged in Hungary, the Kiev Opera Orchestra and the Basel Symphony Orchestra. Daniel Palmizio is a committed chamber musician, regularly performing with artists such as Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Antonio Meneses, Nigel Kennedy, and Maxim Vengerov.

For the Zephir label, he recorded a double CD with the complete sonatas for viola and piano by Bach and Brahms. Together with Maestro Donato Renzetti, he will record Bartok's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, which will be released in 2024. 

He plays a Testore viola from 1800, kindly granted by the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
